This doesn't yet mean that it actually works on 5th edition. There are still major shortcomings with UI, because e.g. Nokia 5800 does not have any keypad or navigation keys so using BeatEd is now very limited. But still, every functionality you can access works well, including playback. So now it only requires that I'll implement some kind of touch UI. I have drawn some sketches on paper of tool bar from where you could access those functionality normally used with keypad. Let's see when I do have time and motivation to start implementing those plans.
The fact is that I hate that crappy Nokia 5800 device, but I also see that there are more devices coming, e.g. N97 and Samsung Omnia HD. Obviously touch based UIs are really coming to S60 this year and that must be the way of the future for BeatEd, too.
I'll come back with more news and probably some beta release when I have got something concrete done.
I think what you're doing is great. Nokia 5800 is agreat phone and it deserves to have a quality music making app like the one you're developing right now.
This software you're making is a great step to kick iPhone's ass!
wanna it with touch screen pleaaaaase :)) please
I promise i will donate some money to you if you make a 5th edition version. The better it works the more money i will donate! (just to keep you motivated)
Hopefully more people will do the same.
There is a workaround. By pressing function + number one can put a trigger on that tick. The number corresponds to velocity so pressing a zero will remove the trigger.
It almost works on nokia n97 mini. The "ok" button does not seem to map to any physical button on the phone though. Is "ok" supposed to be return or something else?

Yes, there is a bug that I fixed some time ago but never released a fixed version. If I remember correctly, this bug shows up when starting BeatEd for 1st time and selecting any example pattern other than those using the default kit (named default*.pat).
The solution is to install the default kit and on first run select some pattern that uses the default kit. I think you can also cancel the pattern selection and select the kit by hand.
I've installed BeatED on my 5230 s60v5 phone, it works, but when I load a song from the example the program exits.
Pez, just buy iPhuckone. Dear Author! An adaptation of your program to s60 5th will be enough!!! Thank you!!!
want a program similar to that

why don't you use a pad-like system? instead of keeping a bar with normal buttons use an interface in korg kaossilator style! just put a couple of buttons for main features and use the touchscreen as a kaos pad! that would be wonderfull!
to think that time is finally man
Whoo.. long time no updates.. Yeah, I know there are lots of S60 5th devices out now.. I should really find some time and motivation to do a decent 5th edition version of BeatEd..
To the end of the year, Nokia plans to increase the number of sensor models to 6. Many owners of such phones will be in need of your good electronic drums. Me too.
Keep working on it my friend.
Vesuvian software has made a 2 bar drum sampler using touch screen and, while no means capable of live work,it is usefull for jamming.
Touch screens are the way ahead and you'll get a FAR bigger fan base and thus, more donations, if you keep pluggin 'excuse the pun' away at a full touch screen version.
I'm just praying someone will also make a full on sampler/sf2/vst player for these new phones.
Cheers and good luck.
Hi, dear Author! Thanks for your application! I've lost my N95 and bought 5800, sorry:) There is very big need of BeatEd' using on this phone. I'm waiting for your grace to continue your work with S60-5th adaptation! Thx again!
yes man i need this apps for my nokia 5800 PLS :) :) :)
Please dont hate the 5800 too much - I think you could come up with a great UI to get it working! I'd donate i you get it working!
Ive installed this and runs great on my 5800. I AM able to play loops with the green call button. So that works. Unfortunately there is no way i can find to input sequences. the most obvious way would seem to be to tap on the loop track where you want a sound to be... but tapping does nothing..
Totally love the Downloadable drum kits!
Keep it up.
Works great on N95.
I have instelled it also on N5800 and I can open the application.
The only problem is I cant play.....when I press green button
instead of playing it goes to dial manu.
Cld u move PLAY mode to OPTION then we cld play BeatED on N5800.
Thanks
